Over the last few years, a new era of consumerism has started. Consumers are no longer satisfied with taking products and labels at face value. They are now digging deeper, asking questions and demanding the best quality of food.

A key to success for the entire industry is showcasing the innovation within the sector. Food Matters Live 2017, held on 21-23 November 2017 at ExCel, London celebrates just that. It brings together 800 exhibitors, 400 speakers including live demos, seminars, awards and much more in its bid to collaborate, innovate and inspire.
I have been attending the event for the last few years and have seen its evolution and development as the years have progressed. Here are my thoughts on the key highlights of the day:
– Innovation: As the buzz word for the event, the exhibitors had a variety of interesting and engaging products on display. From probiotic water caps to vegan health snacks, the offering was impressive and reassuring. An award ceremony is also held every year within the event to encourage manufacturers to innovate in terms of products, packaging and marketing.
– Collaborate: The event provides a matchmaking service for exhibitors and visitors. As the Business Development Director at Agrantec, I find this part of the event is very interesting and encouraging to see. The platform to connect, engage and collaborate being built so intricately within the fabric of this event makes sure I will be returning here year on year.
– Inspire: Over the years I have seen a sharp increase in the number of Universities exhibiting at the event. It is reassuring to see the new generation taking a keen interest in the industry. The seminars and talks touched on a variety of topics such as Brexit, Social Media trends, Evolution of Packaging and Processing, demonstrating the shift in consumer interest and expectations.
While the event itself has become more compact over the years, the topics and quality of exhibitors has continued to grow. The event is inclusive of international brands, one-man startups, large scale manufacturers and suppliers, with each finding their place within the large expanse at ExCel.
